Travels Through My Mind

ROW80 Check-in #8 (I skipped number 7) April 29, 2012

Wow!! Lotsa time to rest this week, and my body wouldn’t let me pass it up. I managed to get in 20 hours of actual sleep between bedtime Wednesday and work Friday morning. That was quite a shot in the arm, and some how I still managed to rearrange my house so that my big L-shaped secretarial desk (the old kind, made of real wood and very heavy) moved halfway across the house in that same time period. Okay, so I seem to recall some minor swearing and a bit of spilt blood in the moving process, but it was invigorating. Now my desk is where I can use it to write on instead of the folding table in a darkened corner of my bedroom.

So I woke Saturday morning, far too rested for 8:30 in the morning, even my cats were stunned that I didn’t climb back into bed. The wind was blowing in cold, and I had nothing urgent that needed done. The laundry could run without supervision, and feeding the cats only take a few moments. So I wrote. I did my happy chair dance and I wrote some more. I scared the cats by dancing through the house, and I wrote some more. I had a wonderful day, the only downside was that I ran out of time and didn’t get a chance to do another segment of my blog story! Ah well, I know where the story is going, so I will try and get another section posted in the next day or so.

My life will be chaos for the next eight months or so, so I am going to set goals that I have some hope of accomplishing.

1. Write at least 1000 words per week on  WIPs

DOUBLED IT!! I split it between the two, because the ideas were overflowing, but I cleared 2k words!

2. Start a Twitter account

Goal met: 4/4/2012

3. Learn how to use Twitter, Facebook and my blog to at reach at least 10 new followers.

I am counting followers to my blog since the start of ROW80. I have three new direct blog followers and 10 who access my blog via Twitter! YAY!!! That’s thirteen!!! And we are only two and a half weeks in!! I am still working my way through Kristen Lamb’s book We Are Not Alone. I did choose to go with HootSuite and have no clue what the site is supposed to do for me or how to use it, so any advice on how this platform works would be welcome. The only new thing here is that I managed to get Twitter hooked up to my phone.

4. Post at least one blog that is not a ROW80 check-in

No new blogs this week. I slept instead.

5. Learn how to use wordpress so that I can do things like add the ROW80 badge to my sidebar, or locate a blogsite that I understand how to use.

My site is steadily improving, and will probably continue to change it’s appearance throughout it’s lifetime. I need to figure out how to change the filters and such so that people don’t have so much trouble commenting on my blogs. I also want to figure out how to link other blogs, like a click here and go to button on my sidebar. Perhaps I will get a chance to get nosy in the next few days, but no promises, I have soooo much I want to get written that my blog page may get put on the back burner for a little bit.

Hmmm. I am thinking it’s a good thing that I kept my actual writing goals down to a minimum. It looks like I may be spending quite a bit of the next couple of months just trying to reach some level of competency in platform building!!

Okay folks. A little less scared here. I think I can actually manage this list! It might be tough at times, but I really think I can swing it!

How did you do? Any wonderful surprises?

ROW80 Check-in #6 April 22, 2012

On the go all week long. What down time I did have,  I was too tired to do the research that I need to do. I will try again next week. I am still managing to maintain a steady focus on my writing, and doing fairly well on these goals. I am very much hating the fact that I can’t spend more time on my WIPs, but anything I write while half asleep would just double my work later. It is the better part of wisdom that keeps my WIPs at a standstill at the moment.

My life will be chaos for the next eight months or so, so I am going to set goals that I have some hope of accomplishing.

1. Write at least 1000 words per week on  WIPs

Got absolutely nothing written on my WIPs. I have two going and both are at a standstill until I have the time to do some research. I did start a new one, a mini that I am posting on my blog in installments, and wrote 920 words on that in two installments. So I did get some writing done, just barely missed my word count goal, just not on my WIPs.

2. Start a Twitter account

Goal met: 4/4/2012

3. Learn how to use Twitter, Facebook and my blog to at reach at least 10 new followers.

I did choose to go with HootSuite and have no clue what the site is supposed to do for me or how to use it, so any advice on how this platform works would be welcome. I still have to get my Twitter account linked to my phone.

4. Post at least one blog that is not a ROW80 check-in

I posted the second installment of my mini The Valkyrie and The Viking today, so that makes two for the week.

I know WP blocks Pru just about every other post, and it’s getting annoying. I looked through all of the settings, and can’t for the life of me figure out what might be causing the problem. Although, I did figure out how to add catagories (and put stuff into said catagories) and tags! I also want to figure out how to link other blogs, like a click here and go to button on my sidebar. I have to get nosy.

The Valkyrie and The Viking (Part 2)

Filed under: The Valkyrie and The Viking — charismaloy @ 2:10 pm

Okay guys, this one is a little bit shorter section.

The fog was thick as they stood at the pier. The invincibility of youth was overridden by the knowledge of their hearts. It would be a miracle if either of them survived this adventure. They had spent a great deal of time with an atlas the night before, and both carried two slips of paper with coordinates on them.

“You have your sextant right?”

“Yes, and we already practiced tracking coordinates with it. I don’t think we ever forgot how to do it. Daddy drilled it into our heads in the Great War.”

“ I think this is going to take every survival skill we ever learned”

“Just survive, dearest. If you don’t I swear a part of me shall die as well.”

Fear, and the terrible knowledge that this may well be the last time they saw each other, overwhelmed the pair and the clung to each other and wept. A few moments later the fog began to lift and it was time for Victoria to board the boat for New York. Valerie watched from the dock as her sister stood at the rail and held her eyes until they could no longer see each other. Then Valerie walked the distance to where she would catch a boat to France.

At the far end of the docks, two figures stood. The tall lithe woman watched Valerie with compassion in her eyes while her stocky companion continued to stare after Victoria’s ship, tears running down his face.

“It hurts them so, my Queen”

“I know, my dear friend. They must learn what we could not, and they must each learn it for themselves. Let us hope that they have the capacity that we lack, for I grow weary of this endless battle, this death without cessation.”

“Aye, me as well.”

“We must return to it my friend. We are out of time here.”

As Valerie stepped onto the waiting boat, the figures at the end of the dock faded.

ROW80 Checkin # 5 April 18, 2012

Two long days of unavoidable drama at work, so I still got very little ROW80 stuff done. But somehow I still came out ahead… What the heck??? Maybe it’s a good thing that writing works for me to tune out some of the drama.

My life will be chaos for the next eight months or so, so I am going to set goals that I have some hope of accomplishing.

1. Write at least 1000 words per week on  WIPs

Got absolutely nothing written on my WIPs. I have two going and both are at a standstill until I have the time to do some research. I did start a new one, a mini that I am posting on my blog in installments, and wrote 586 words on that. I plan to post the next installment by the end of the week, so that should cover 1000 words, just not on my WIPs.

2. Start a Twitter account

Goal met: 4/4/2012

3. Learn how to use Twitter, Facebook and my blog to at reach at least 10 new followers.

I also got a phone with browser abilities that I am trying to figure out how to use with FB and Twitter. This from the one who swore, not six months ago, that she would never need a phone with a data package.

4. Post at least one blog that is not a ROW80 check-in

I posted the first installment of my mini The Valkyrie and The Viking on Monday. I hope to have another installment posted by the end of the week.

5. Learn how to use wordpress so that I can do things like add the ROW80 badge to my sidebar, or locate a blogsite that I understand how to use.
