Travels Through My Mind

ROW80 Check-in #8 (I skipped number 7) April 29, 2012

Wow!! Lotsa time to rest this week, and my body wouldn’t let me pass it up. I managed to get in 20 hours of actual sleep between bedtime Wednesday and work Friday morning. That was quite a shot in the arm, and some how I still managed to rearrange my house so that my big L-shaped secretarial desk (the old kind, made of real wood and very heavy) moved halfway across the house in that same time period. Okay, so I seem to recall some minor swearing and a bit of spilt blood in the moving process, but it was invigorating. Now my desk is where I can use it to write on instead of the folding table in a darkened corner of my bedroom.

So I woke Saturday morning, far too rested for 8:30 in the morning, even my cats were stunned that I didn’t climb back into bed. The wind was blowing in cold, and I had nothing urgent that needed done. The laundry could run without supervision, and feeding the cats only take a few moments. So I wrote. I did my happy chair dance and I wrote some more. I scared the cats by dancing through the house, and I wrote some more. I had a wonderful day, the only downside was that I ran out of time and didn’t get a chance to do another segment of my blog story! Ah well, I know where the story is going, so I will try and get another section posted in the next day or so.

My life will be chaos for the next eight months or so, so I am going to set goals that I have some hope of accomplishing.

1. Write at least 1000 words per week on  WIPs

DOUBLED IT!! I split it between the two, because the ideas were overflowing, but I cleared 2k words!

2. Start a Twitter account

Goal met: 4/4/2012

3. Learn how to use Twitter, Facebook and my blog to at reach at least 10 new followers.

I am counting followers to my blog since the start of ROW80. I have three new direct blog followers and 10 who access my blog via Twitter! YAY!!! That’s thirteen!!! And we are only two and a half weeks in!! I am still working my way through Kristen Lamb’s book We Are Not Alone. I did choose to go with HootSuite and have no clue what the site is supposed to do for me or how to use it, so any advice on how this platform works would be welcome. The only new thing here is that I managed to get Twitter hooked up to my phone.

4. Post at least one blog that is not a ROW80 check-in

No new blogs this week. I slept instead.

5. Learn how to use wordpress so that I can do things like add the ROW80 badge to my sidebar, or locate a blogsite that I understand how to use.

My site is steadily improving, and will probably continue to change it’s appearance throughout it’s lifetime. I need to figure out how to change the filters and such so that people don’t have so much trouble commenting on my blogs. I also want to figure out how to link other blogs, like a click here and go to button on my sidebar. Perhaps I will get a chance to get nosy in the next few days, but no promises, I have soooo much I want to get written that my blog page may get put on the back burner for a little bit.

Hmmm. I am thinking it’s a good thing that I kept my actual writing goals down to a minimum. It looks like I may be spending quite a bit of the next couple of months just trying to reach some level of competency in platform building!!

Okay folks. A little less scared here. I think I can actually manage this list! It might be tough at times, but I really think I can swing it!

How did you do? Any wonderful surprises?

Just love when writing happens that way. You are doing so well on your goals. Congratulations! Had one of those desks myself, once, and am thrilled you are getting to use it. Have a great week.

I love my big desk, but have had buried in my spare room, the one room in the house that needs to be rewired!!
Now I not only have it moved into my living room where there is more space and it doesn’t dominate the room, I am able to use one of the unique hand-made lamps that my grandfather built. I am so very happy.

Glad you got some sleep, Charis! Think I’ll go to bed at 8 tonight—if I can shoot the neighbor’s yelping dog….

Hey there, looks like you had a great week. I am so very pleased for you. Dumbweed huh? I think a few of the local politicians have been smoking the stuff. 🙂

I think your local politicians are sharing!
